The Giving Trees

An Annual Poetry Program at John Rowland Mansion

The Giving Trees is an annual public program uniting poetry, ecology, and living history at one of the San Gabriel Valley’s most significant historic sites, the John Rowland Mansion. Poets and artists gather to read children’s stories at Let’s Make a New Garden From Old Wounds, a site-specific installation of Southern California Black Walnut Trees by David HorvitzZara Schuster, and Terremoto—permanently installed in 2024.

The community event brings together artists, landscape architects, neighbors, and local businesses to celebrate the history of San Gabriel Valley, natural ecosystems, and storytelling to unite our community and strengthen our roots.

The Giving Trees is partially sponsored by Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis, 1st District.
